In the fall of 2013 Windemere began an individualized music therapy program modeled after the renowned “Music and Memory” concept. The official “Music and Memory” program began in 2008 in nursing homes nationwide to improve resident’s lives through music. The research has affirmed that music can be used to communicate to those who have dementia, cognitive impairments, or have suffered a debilitating disease or accident.
At Windemere, we know how important music is in the lives of our residents and expanding the reach of our music was something we had to explore. Working with residents, families and volunteers, Windemere created a personalized playlist for each participant drawing on their musical tastes and interests with the ambition to ignite fond memories and feelings from their past. The goal of this popular program is simply to enhance our residents’ quality of life through music.
